(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - across the river

Living close to river Tagus means we get to see it almost everyday. Most of the times, however, we either see it from one of its sides or from the top, crossing the bridges.

A couple of weeks ago, however, we decided to take the kids on the ferry to give them a different experience. We'd done it before, but not from exactly from this location.

The evening was perfect, even if a little windy out in the water, and it was nice to see the same things we are used to from a slightly different angle.

Condensed Milk Cake Recipe

Condensed milk brings me memories of childhood days when the taste of something sweet (ok, very sweet) came without the guilt of ingesting too much sugar. I used to love eating condensed milk by the spoon...

Oh well, back to the present: a while ago I bought a can of condensed milk as part of the list of ingredients for a cake recipe I wanted to try...only to find out later that the condensed milk was only necessary for the cake frosting. Now, I usually only add frosting to cakes for birthday parties and other special occasions, so that particular cake stayed frostless (is that even a word?). And the can of condensed milk lived in the back of my pantry until I came up with a recipe to use it.

Condensed Milk Cake Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of butter or margarine
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

Mix sugar and butter/margarine and and then add the eggs and the condensed milk. Once you have a soft, uniform batter, add the rest of the ingredients, pour everything onto a greased cake pan and bake for for about 30 minutes.

The recipe worked just fine, and the cake turned out delicious and moist on the inside. Maybe next time I'll go a bit easier on the top heat, to keep if from turning so brown, though. But in what concerns taste? It's just perfect.

Lollipops Spring Flower Party Favors

Hello, and welcome. Today I'm sharing a very quick project I made for a friends' spring birthday party: lollipop flowers party favors.

Lollipops Spring Flower Party Favors

They are colorful and cute and very, very easy to make. And they spread the spring cheer all around!

Lollipops Spring Flower Party Favors

What you need:
- an assortment of round top lollipops
- scraps of felt, craft paper or scrapbook paper, in bright colors or patterns. I used felt scraps for the ones you see in the photos. If your party has a specific theme you can use matching paper.
- the flower shapes - download the pattern here. Use the larger flower for larger lollipops and the other for the smaller ones
- a hole punch

All you need to do is to cut flower shapes out of your felt or paper pieces...

...and then punch a hole right in the middle of each flower. The hole needs to be large enough for the lollipop stick to pass through, but no larger than that, otherwise it will fall back out too easily.

And that's it.  Soon you will have lots of blooming lollipop flowers to cheer up your party!
